JAKARTA - Earlier this month, Qualcomm launched a monster chipset for Android flagship phones, namely Snapdragon 888. But unfortunately, the latest chipset has not been able to beat the chip on the Apple giant's iPhone 12.

Based on the Geekbench 5 test conducted by Anandtech, Monday, December 21, Snapdragon 888 gets a score far enough from its competitors. Its single core 1,135 and 3,794 are multi-core.

Meanwhile, Anandtech used a sample chipset on the iPhone 12 Pro with the A14 chip which was able to score a higher score. Namely the value of 1.603 on the single core test and 4.187 on the multi-core test.

Benchmark test results

Interestingly, the Snapdragon 888 also cannot surpass the single core results obtained by the iPhone 11 Pro with 1,331 numbers, but not with the very thin 3,366 multi-core test.

Meanwhile, Anandtech also revealed a comparison of the GFXBench test. The Snapdragon 888 gets a score of 86 fps. The score is behind the iPhone SE, iPhone 11 series and iPhone 12 series.

However, even though the Snapdragon 888 has not matched the score of the A13 or A14 SoC used in the iPhone, it is possible that continued performance will depend on the power consumption of the chip.

If that number is between 4 and 4.5W, then the majority of the top Android phones in 2021 will likely retain the top performance numbers. And Qualcomm can reclaim the mobile performance throne from Apple.

For information, Snapdragon 888 itself is a high-end chip that will be present on flagship Android phones in 2021. One of the main specifications that is underdog is the 5G X60 modem which is integrated in the SoC packaging.

In addition to the 5G modem, the Snapdragon 888 is supported by a sixth generation AI Engine which promises to improve performance and save power for using artificial intelligence features.
