JAKARTA - Skype users can now translate chats and calls in more languages, thanks to a new tool from the parent company, Microsoft.

The tool, dubbed TruVoice, is a real-time translation for video calls in a personal voice, the interlocutor can hear the translation as stated by the user of the tool aka the original human voice.

"This is a big step forward for Skype, as it allows people who speak different languages to communicate easily with each other," Skype said in its official blog, Friday, December 16.

Tru Voice is a technology Microsoft demonstrated eight years ago, and is now available to all Skype users for free.

"This tool makes it easier for users to have meetings or interviews with partners who speak different languages, because now users can have conversations without the need for translators," Skype said.

So with TruVoice, Skype users can communicate with those who have different languages. Now the translation will sound like someone you talk to, not just a robot.

Users can disable the TruVoice feature and switch to standard robot sound. New translation capabilities on Skype support English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, and other languages.

For now, Tru Voice is only available on one-to-one calls, but Microsoft has promised to step up group calls and Telephony in the next few months.

The English, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, and French versions are automatically generated by the AI. So there may still be inaccuracies in translating, please always see Indonesian as our main language. (system supported by DigitalSiber.id)
