JAKARTA - Amazon Inc will close the food delivery business they are testing in India. This was revealed by the e-commerce giant on Friday, November 25, a day after announcing the termination of the online learning platform for high school students in the country.
Amazon Food, a business that is being piloted by Amazon Inc., in the southern Indian city of Bengaluru, will be suspended for several reasons.
"As part of our annual operating planning review process, we have made the decision to stop Amazon Food," an Amazon Inc. spokesman told Reuters.
"We are not taking this decision lightly. We are stopping this program in stages to take care of customers and partners at this time," he added.
The Economic Times previously reported that the business would be discontinued from December 29 onwards, citing communications from the company to its restaurant partners.
On Thursday, November 24, Amazon said it would shut down the Amazon Academy platform in India which was launched early last year, amid a virtual learning boom during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The uncertain macroeconomic environment has made the e-commerce giant also review the workforce globally, as the company plans to lay off about 10,000 employees in the role of companies and technology.
