Vine Successor Byte Ready To Become TikTok Competitor

JAKARTA - The Vine application is finally back, after four years of sleep. Carrying the name Byte, this short video application is ready to come with a variety of unique features.

Since its resurrection on Friday, January 25, Byte has immediately received a lot of warm welcome from the citizens of the United States (US) with the number of downloads on the App Store that managed to compete with a similar application from China, TikTok.

Founded in the summer of 2012, the company that was later acquired by Twitter failed to bring Vine back to life. Until finally this service had to be closed in 2016.

Despite its very short existence, Vine has become a cultural point of contact in the US, with many users taking advantage of the six-second duration as a creative tool. And it is in this application that the controversial YouTuber, Logan Paul can have a following of more than 20 million subscribers.

"Since last Friday, Byte got the number one position in the row of free applications on the US App Store," said Randy Nelson from research firm Sensor Tower, as quoted by Time, Tuesday, January 28.

Byte has many standard features such as displaying user activity and explore pages, notifications and profiles. This lets users rebyte or share the videos they like. Similar to Instagram which is known as repost.

But on the other hand, Byte has not used a variety of AR filters, transitions, to cute stickers such as Snapchat, Instagram and its TikTok competitors. So if users use this application, they are required to think creatively.

Just like YouTube, Byte has the advantage of the monetize system, where the creators who have published their videos can get income from the videos they upload. Where, Byte will use a profit sharing system and an injection through the funds they have at the beginning of the launch.

The developer of the Byte application, Dom Hofmann, is targeting his application to have a better financial circulation. Now, Byte can be downloaded on the App Store.

Unfortunately, some users have complained about receiving spam comments from bots on new videos uploaded a few days after Byte appeared. In response to this, Hofmann promised to solve the problem immediately.

"I would like to post an update and explain that we are aware of the problem with spam comments and certain comments. This is our top priority, and we are working very hard to fix it. It should have improved less than 24 hours ago," wrote Hofmann on his blog.
