Local Metaverse Application Inaugurated, Jokowi: Young Children Can Be A Future City Form Virtually

JAKARTA - The local metaverse platform Jagat officially launched today, which is the first virtual world in Indonesia to be connected to a real city, namely the capital city of the archipelago (IKN).

Attended by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo or Jokowi, who hopes that the Jagat application will become a forum for young people to form Indonesia's future city virtually.

"The presence of the archipelago into the metaverse can foster a sense of ownership and nationality towards the archipelago, especially young people from Sabang to Marauke can actively participate in forming Indonesia's future city according to their aspirations virtually," said Jokowi at the launch of the Jagat application in Central Jakarta, Friday, October 28.

The world itself can not only be used to explore IKN, but users are also unable to hold meetings, meetings, watch movies, virtual concerts, digital performances and showcases of other digital works and other interactions immersively.

"With the presence of avatars, people can realize their personalities according to their aspirations. The features presented are inspired by daily interactions, even though they are present as avatars, there is always an option to talk by turning on the microphone or face-to-face online through the camera," said Jagat Co-Founder and CEO, Barry Beagent.

Barry added that currently users can use the Jagat application via mobile or web. In addition, he emphasized that Jagat implements trust safety, and community guideline, so that users entering the world of the Jagat metaverse are claimed to be safe from negative treatment between users.

"It has also complied with regulations in Indonesia and we are also following international standards. We are building a team and if platforms and users develop, we will remain committed to developing our trust safety team," Barry explained.

But unfortunately, unlike Meta's metaverse platform, Horizon World, in Jagat between players can still be close together and not have the distance to prevent unwanted things from happening.

"There doesn't seem to be a distance yet," Barry concluded.
