Specifications Of Steyr Aug, Brigadier J's Weapons Who Become A Talk During The Trial Of Ferdy Sambo's Indictment

The prosecutor read out the indictment at the South Jakarta District Court on Monday, October 17. The indictment stated that the former Head of the National Police Propam Division Ferdy Sambo was charged with premeditated murder of Brigadier Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat or Brigadier J.

Prosecutors revealed that before carrying out the action, Ferdy Sambo ensured that Yosua must be in an unarmed state. Therefore, Sambo asked about the whereabouts of Brigadier J's weapon, namely HS firearms and Steyr Aug-type long-barreled weapons.

Launching from various sources, the long-barreled Steyr Aug weapon, which was secured by Brigadier J, was an assault rifle developed in 1977 by Austrian company Steyr Mannlicher.

AUG itself stands for Armee Universal Gewehr aka "The Universal Army rifle, which means Universal Army rifle.

The development of Steyr Aug was first carried out because of the Austrian Army's desire for a new standard rifle to complete NATO's smaller 5.56 mm bullet in 1970.

They also want multipurpose weapons that can fulfill various roles including assault rifles, troop support weapons, and light machine guns. For this reason, Austria Steyr Mannlicher created Steyr Aug and began to be officially introduced in 1977 in Austria.

Steyr Aug is a variant of NATO's 5.56 mm caliber bullpup assault rifle, green and integrated telescope. Once declared worthy of production, the rifle was later adopted as the main weapon for the Austrian Armed Forces, Australia, New Zealand, Luxembourg, Ireland, and was used by Malaysia.

Using 70 percent of the polymer material, Steyr Aug became a lighter weapon than any other weapon. In addition, Steyr Aug can use 5.56 x 45mm bullets and 9mm for the role of a light machine gun.

The standard Steyr Aug series has a barrel length of 508 mm, while the overall length of Steyr Aug is 805 mm. This is due to the bullpup system used by Steyr Aug.

System bullpup is a technology that allows a total length of 25 percent shorter weapons than standard rifles, but has the same barrel length as rifles in general.

Steyr Aug has an empty weight of 3.6 kg with an average shot of 650 grains per minute with a bullet speed of 992 m/minute, with an effective distance of 500 meters. The magazine contains 30 or 42 bullets.

Steyr is operated with an operating gas system, meaning the remaining gas from the first ammunition explosion will be reused to push the next bullet ride into the explosive chamber, as well as push the trigger until it is ready to fire again.
