Standard Straight-Thrugh cables T-568A and T-568B are most often used as patch cables for your Ethernet connection. If you need a cable to connect two Ethernet devices directly without a hub or when you connect two hubs at the same time, you should use the Crossover cable.

A good way to remember how to install the Ethernet Crossover cable is to connect one end using the T-568A standard and the other end using the T-568B standard. Another way to remember the color code is to replace the Green cable set in its place with the Orange cable set. In particular, replace solid green (G) with solid orange, and replace green/white with orange/white.

By looking at the straight-thru Ethernet T-568A UTP cable and the Ethernet crossover with the T-568B tip, we see that the TX (carptor) pin is connected to the corresponding RX (receiver) pins, plus to plus and minus to be reduced. You can also see that pairs of blue and brown cables on pins 4, 5, 7, and 8 are not used on either standard.

What you may not realize is that these same 4, 5, 7, and 8 pins are also not used or needed in 100BASE-TX. So why bother using these cables, either for one thing it's easier to make connections with all the cables that are grouped together.
