JAKARTA - As part of a collaboration with Edison's Department of Transportation and Consolidation, FLO as Canada's largest electric vehicle charging network builds roadside chargers across New York City.

This collaboration is designated as a strong sustainability goal, and aims to encourage EV adoption as a means to reduce greenhouse emissions and improve air quality.

The FLO has installed its EV charging station since June 2021, and now they have installed its 100th charger, located on Staten Island, making roadside charging available in all 5 regions.

The placement of EV chargers throughout this city is a vision of the FLO itself, where they think that chargers should be available when needed.

"Every charging station is a promise. A charger must always be available when needed, and that is why we are committed to providing an industry-leading level of work time, where our goal is to achieve 98% active time," said Martin Briere, Chief Network and Experience Officer at the FLO quoted from InsideEVs.

The FLO believes that roadside charging is an important element in making electric vehicles accessible to everyone, anywhere.

Currently FLO has more than 65,000 charging stations on its network. When the first station was installed at NYC, there were 15,000 electric vehicles registered at NYC, but there were only 1,400 Level 2 stations, most of which were in Manhattan parking garage.

FLO chargers can charge 80 percent in about four to eight hours, depending on the vehicle.

With this capability, the FLO charges USD 2.50 (IDR 38 thousand) per hour between 6 am and 9 pm, and drops to USD 1.00 (IDR 15 thousand) per hour overnight.

A 2018 study by the University of Michigan University of Transport Research Institute found that the average cost for electric car fuel is cheaper than that for gas-powered vehicles with US$485 (Rp7.4 million) per year, compared to US$1,117 (Rp17 million).
