JAKARTA - Israel has shared new intelligence with the United States that it claims reveals Iran's alleged plan to assassinate President Donald Trump.

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the matter, the intelligence information could potentially further escalate tensions between Washington and Tehran.

According to the WSJ, Iran has for years promised to retaliate for the killing of the commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in a US attack on January 3, 2020 on Trump's orders.

The Israeli Embassy in Washington declined to comment.

Meanwhile, Iran's Mission to the United Nations (UN) has not responded to the report.

As reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Friday, July 10, the White House asked The Journal to refer to Trump's statement at the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, last Wednesday regarding the possibility of an assassination attempt against him by Iran.

"They want to kill the leader of the United States, that's me. My name is on every list of theirs. I saw it this morning, my name is on all their lists. So far I'm probably still lucky, but that luck may not last long," Trump said.

Amid rising tensions with Iran, Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly spoke by phone on Thursday. Both agreed to continue to coordinate.

In the last two days, the United States and Iran have launched attacks on each other after Iran attacked three merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

In response to the US attacks, which lasted for two consecutive nights, Tehran on Thursday launched attacks on US military infrastructure in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and Jordan.
