JAKARTA - Grab Indonesia has officially partnered with Hyundai Motors to operate an electric-powered taxi or Electric Vehicle (EV) in Indonesia. Later Soekarno-Hatta International Airport will be the starting point for the operation of Grab's electric taxi.

"We will initially operate 20 electric cars, and the target is to increase to 500 units by the end of the year," said President of Grab Indonesia, Ridzki Kramadibrata, during the launch of GrabCar Electric at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Monday, January 27.

Ridzki explained that electric vehicles are becoming a trend among millennials, because they are environmentally friendly and have minimal gas emissions. This also makes Grab partner with Hyundai in environmentally friendly transportation.

"We want to be one of the drivers who initiate joint collaboration to present transportation solutions that are more efficient and also environmentally friendly," he continued.

On the same occasion, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi expressed his appreciation to Grab and also Hyundai for operating electric vehicles as a mode of transportation. Budi hopes that the GrabCar Electric service can be a solution for community mobility that carries the concept of smart cities and is environmentally friendly.

"I really appreciate the support of Grab and Hyundai with the presence of GrabCar Electric, we are one step ahead to achieve the target of presenting 2 million EV units in Indonesia," said Budi.

According to Budi, this step is also in accordance with Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 55/2019 concerning the Acceleration of the Battery-Based Electric Vehicle Program for Road Transportation, the government is also working to accelerate the ecosystem of electric vehicles in Indonesia.

He hopes that in the future, there will be many vehicles based on electric technology to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Indonesia by up to 29 percent by 2030.
