JAKARTA - ESA astronaut Samantha Cristoferri managed to become the first female Commander of the International Space Station (ISS), to land into space with her barbie doll.

Samantha Cristoforetti will soon fulfill her role as commander of the International Space Station, and take over from fellow Expeditionary crew members 67 Oleg Artemyev.

Not only that, to celebrate World Space Week, and part of tidbit, a US-based puppet company and a joint ESA mission, Samantha also answered questions from five children aged 8-11 years about astronauts and outer space.

He and the robot wearing the spacesuit were seen floating on a rocket with zero gravity while talking.

When asked why he became an astronaut, he said, "As growing up, I was fascinated by the night sky, and the idea of flying into space, and a sense of adventure and exploration."

"And then I became interested in science and technology and then I really like to fly, I became a pilot. And being an astronaut brought all my desires and interests together," he said.

The conversation in the video is part of a project to inspire young girls who want to start their careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Samantha started her mission to the ISS in April, and was officially appointed the space station commander last month.

" Samantha's election for commandership clearly shows the confidence and value of our international partners placed in ESA astronauts," said ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher.

Aschbacher said that throughout his Minerva mission, Samantha had contributed greatly to Station's scientific and operational success.

"And I anticipate that the station will continue to grow under its command," he added.
