JAKARTA - Electric vehicle lovers, especially four-wheeled, have new news from Mercedes-Benz. The German brand will issue the G-Wagen EV, in mid-2024.

This was conveyed by the boss of Mercedes-Benz, Ola Kallenius, as reported by Antara from The Verge.

In The Verge's report, Kallenius also admitted that he had already driven the prototype version of the electric SUV at the company's testing facility located in Graz, Austria. He believes that the off-road adventure future is through electric cars.

When Mercedes first launched an electric SUV concept version in September 2021, the company did not confirm any production plans. In fact, Kallenius once said in 2019 he was not sure if G-Wagen would have many opportunities in the future.

However, this is still early and very minimal details shared by the company. Mercedes has not disclosed any estimates for the range, size of the battery, or power consumption of the car.

In the initial concept, this car has a drive of all wheels (4x4), which is considered reasonable from shape to trend in the market. In 2021, G-Wagen EV is considered the first Mercedes-Benz attempt to modify the new generation G-Class first revealed at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show.

The EQG concept is wrapped in the same two-tone paint that Mercedes-Benz used in the first edition of the EQS sedan. The vehicle also uses a glowing grill that the company has played with on several other production concepts and vehicles.

When the production EQG arrives in mid-2024, the car will join a series of electric vehicles that can handle heavy terrains, such as trucks and SUVs and GMC Hummer EV trucks, Rivian R1T and R1S, Euro Silverado EV, and Ford F-150 Lightning.

Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz said it would produce fully electric-energy vehicles by 2030. The company is committed to investing 40 billion euros (about 47 billion US dollars) in the effort.
