JAKARTA - BMW announced that it will produce a fuel cell system for the BMW iX5 Hydrogen car at its competency center for hydrogen in Munich.

BMW iX Hydrogen will enter worldwide service later this year for testing and demonstration purposes.

BMW states that a combination of high-performance fuel and battery cells will create a driving system that will push the brand portfolio towards zero-emissions mobility.

The fuel cell system to be produced by BMW is one of the core elements of BMW iX5 Hydrogen. This system produces a high output of 170 hp continuously.

This system is paired with an electric motorbike equipped with fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology and high-performance batteries that have been developed for this vehicle which produces a power output of 374 cellphones.

BMW revealed that individual fuel cell sources needed to produce BMW iX5 Hydrogen cars from Toyota Motor Corporation.

BMW AG Management Council chairman Oliver Zipse said hydrogen is one of the key elements that will assist in climate neutrality.

"By starting production of small-scale fuel cells today, we are showing the technical maturity of this type of driving system and underlining its potential for the future," Zipse added as quoted by Antara.

BMW AG's Management Board member, Development Frank Weber added that the team has managed to double the sustainable output of fuel cells in second-generation fuel cells in BMW iX5 Hydrogen along with weight and size declines.

Earlier this year it was reported that BMW iX Hydrogen entered its final phase of winter testing at its BMW testing center located in Arjeplog, northern Sweden.

Hydrogen used by cars as energy sources is stored in two 700-bar tanks made of carbon fiber-boosting plastic. This is as broadcast by the Hindustan Times, Saturday (3/9/2022).
