Britain's National Health Service Prepares 21 Electrical Ambulances To Help The Carbon Emission Crisis And Mental Health

JAKARTA - The UK National Health Service (NHS) is reported to have launched its electric ambulance fleet as an effort to reduce the mental health crisis and carbon emissions.

Awareness of mental health is becoming more of a priority worldwide today, as the percentage of people experiencing symptoms continues to increase. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), one in every eight people live with mental health conditions.

For this reason, NHS did its part to deal with the two crises above by presenting an electric ambulance dedicated to mental health calls.

Launching from Electrek, if you live in the UK right now, you may already be riding this electric-powered ambulance. Because NHS is running a test with 21 zero-emission EV ambulances, six of which are dedicated to mental health patients.

The electric vehicle trial is part of NHS' goal of achieving net zero carbon by 2040 and will be dedicated to serving a growing mental health epidemic.

Looking back in June, the UK Government announced it would invest 150 million euros (approximately IDR 2.23 trillion) over the next three years to fund NHS' mental health services.

Of the total amount given, 7 million euros (Rp 104 billion) were specifically for additional mental health vehicles.

This electric ambulance is different from the traditional ones. They will still be equipped with the necessary rescue equipment. However, EV ambulances will have fewer fluorescent signs and more relaxed nuances on the inside to help relieve the patient's condition.
