ITB Wins First Place In The 2020 Huawei ICT Competition

JAKARTA - The team from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) managed to bring home two prestigious titles at the Huawei ICT Competition 2020 Global. They managed to beat 109 teams from 39 countries who qualified for the final round at the global level.

From the ITB press release, the global level competition will take place on November 6-14 2020. The competition takes place online by accessing Huawei's e-Lab server in China.

"We hope that ITB's achievements in the Huawei ICT Competition will further increase our enthusiasm and also the world of higher education throughout Indonesia to continue to improve competence and mastery in the latest technology so that it can contribute more in supporting the realization of an advanced Indonesia based on technology, innovation and research," said the Chancellor. ITB, Prof. Reini Wirahadikusumah, Tuesday, November 17th.

The team from ITB consists of eight lecturers and students at the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (STEI). They are lecturers Rifqy Hakimi and Abdul Latif, as well as students Afif Tri Farhan, Joshua Christo Randiny, Putu Priyana Pradipta, Bagas Purwa Sentika, M. Nawaffaras Mahendika, and Gela Pambudi Adiluhung.

This competition in the field of information and communication technology challenges participants to produce problem solutions, configuration, and implementation in Huawei network devices, such as routers, switches, firewalls and access points. The most accurate solutions and implementations will receive high marks.

Apart from ITB from Indonesia, teams from Algeria, the Shenzhen Polytechnic team from China, team 1 from Malaysia, and team three from Nigeria also won the Grand Prize in the Network category. Then, in the Cloud category, ITB shared the victory with the Nigerian team, the Brazilian team, the Nanjing Vocational University of Industry Technology team from China, and the Egyptian team.

Meanwhile, the Grand Prize in the Innovation Competition category was won by the Singapore Polytechnic team and the Shanghai Jiao Tong University team from China. The Singapore Polytechnic team also won the TECH4ALL Social Contribution Award.

CEO of Huawei Indonesia, Jacky Chen, congratulated the Indonesian team on the victory. He said, as a technology developer who has been present at Huawei Indonesia for 20 years, he is proud of ITB's achievements at the 2019-2020 Huawei ICT Competition.

Jacky also said that amid the strengthening of the collaborative spirit between sectors in encouraging the adoption of digital technology, this nation was presented with evidence of the potential of future talents that were promising and reliable to support Indonesia's triumph in global competition.

The Huawei ICT Competition is a form of Huawei's commitment to partnering with a number of universities around the world, including Indonesia. The goal is to build academic competence and support the birth of global competent human resources, through knowledge transfer and introduction of various technologies and devices in the fields of networking, Big Data, IoT, and cloud computing.

The Huawei ICT Competition 2019-2020 was held in collaboration between the Institute for Information Technologies in Education UNESCO, UNESCO's International Center for Higher Education Innovation and Huawei.
