JAKARTA - Establishing a partnership with the Worlds Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), Konami is reportedly developing a baseball video game and becoming a platform for international esports competitions.
At the WBSC Congress earlier this month in Taipei, Konami and WBSC introduced their esports strategy to the National Federation (NF). However, the details about this new game have not been fully revealed, knowing this deal has just been signed.
Even so, launching from IGN, both parties said that the new game will allow the global baseball community, National Federations, and gamers around the world to participate.
"We want to continue to support the development of baseball and softball communities around the world through our games by leveraging our experience in gaming and eSports," said Konami's representative director Hideki Hayakawa.
The two companies previously collaborated on preparing last year's virtual baseball event "eBaseball Powerful Pro Baseball 2020, Konami Digital Entertainment."
"Following our partnership and the incredible success of last year's inaugural Olympic Virtual Series, WBSC is proud to partner with a video game publishing giant like Konami on this exciting new project," said WBSC president Riccardo Fraccari.
According to Fraccari, the project has unlimited potential to further develop its sport and connect with an audience they have never reached before.
"The WBSC, together with Konami, aims to leverage esports to expand the worldwide baseball population while adding another powerful tool for National Federations to attract and make our sport relevant to new audiences and players [and] gamers in their respective countries and territories. ," he continued.
