JAKARTA - British Business Minister Kwasi Kwarteng announced Wednesday, July 20 that he has issued an order preventing the acquisition of intellectual property related to vision-sensing technology by a Chinese company. This prevention is done for reasons of national security.

The order, issued under the National Security and Investment Act, prevents Beijing Infinite Vision Technology Co. to purchase intellectual property from the University of Manchester that will enable them to develop, test, manufacture, use and sell licensed products.

"There is potential that the technology could be used to build defenses or technological capabilities that could pose a national security risk to the UK," said the order, which was issued by the government.

This is a precautionary measure taken by the UK, after the US had previously also done the same to prevent the development of technology owned by China.
