JAKARTA – Various companies and social media platforms are mainly improving their security systems. Google Authenticator is also making another update for its users by removing the "Click to reveal PIN" option.
That option was actually presented in the update in May 2022. But in the latest update in July 2022, Google decided to remove the "Click to reveal PIN" option.
Citing Google 9 to 5, Sunday, July 17, the update was made after confusing users.
Considering the time given by Google Authenticator is relatively short and users cannot "copy and paste" the available passwords.
Thus, Authenticator users can now see more easily the numbers or letters that become the password for two-step verification of the application.
The initial goal of the software made by Google was actually to help developers of applications or online services to set up a better security system with a two-step verification system.
Application users will be able to enter passwords that have been prepared using a one-time password algorithm and are only available for a short time so that the two-step verification is even more stringent.
The displayed password will change every 30 seconds, so if the "Click to reveal PIN" feature is maintained, of course, Google Authenticator service users will need more time to reveal the hidden password.
This update only applies on Android devices and never reaches the iOS app which can ask its user to authenticate Face/Touch ID before displaying the code.
The functions that exist in iOS may be a good alternative to use and implement on Android devices.
In the Google Authenticator update, there is a note regarding the app's latest system release with the description "added device encryption to secret value store".
There are no other changes to Google Authenticator after the update was widely released earlier this week.
