Farewell To The Founder Of The NFT OpenSea Marketplace

JAKARTA – The digital art trading platform NFT OpenSea was abandoned by its co-founder, Alex Atallah. He recently announced plans to resign in August.

Atallah conveyed his plans in a Twitter post. He has also sent notices to the entire team at OpenSea. He claims his decision to step down came from a desire to continue to innovate in other areas.

While OpenSea was still a small company operating with tight margins and keen foresight, Atallah took on leadership roles in various internal areas – such as business development, community support, marketing, and so on.

Such an arrangement was quite common for small start-up companies at the time, OpenSea could only boast of a hundred collections listed on the platform. The company's growth from a small and not so popular digital art gallery turned into the giant it is today.

To become the OpenSea that it is today, it took the company almost three years. However, following a surprising rise in business that began in February 2021, when NFT enjoyed a sharp rise in popularity, the company began looking for a visionary figure to lead OpenSea.

Alex Atallah still has an important role in OpenSea today. The company still needs Atallah's support apart from being the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) which he currently holds, namely as Engineering and OpenSea Ventures.

Following the appointment of Marko Iskander as the new Vice President of Engineering and Nadav Hollander as the new CTO, Atallah was relieved of most of his responsibilities.

However, he stated his intention to remain on OpenSea's board of directors in an advisory capacity. Atallah reiterated that he is stepping down on a positive note and intends to become a supporter of the platform, albeit in a lesser role.

“OpenSea will always be a part of me. I can't stop thinking about the interesting problems we solve every day, even if I try. Devin (co-founder of OpenSea) has done an amazing job of managing OpenSea to a level we never predicted," said Alex Atallah.
