JAKARTA - A letter from an organization called the Organization of Polyamory and Ethical non Monogamy (OPEN) sent a letter to Meta, asking the tech giant to remove the one-name limit on Facebook's "Relationship Status".

"By limiting users to one relationship status (and one tagged partner) on their Profile, non-monogamous individuals are arbitrarily prevented from expressing their various connections on the Facebook App," OPEN wrote in its letter, obtained by Engadget.

OPEN says that Meta has long shown limited acknowledgment of non-monogamy with the "Open Relationship" option on Facebook.

In its letter, OPEN also included data that four to five percent of adults in the US currently practice some form of ethical non-monogamy.

"Ethical non-monogamy, also referred to as consensual non-monogamy, is a term encompassing a broad range of relationship practices involving multiple partners, with the full knowledge and consent of everyone involved," explains OPEN.

Furthermore, OPEN stated, by expanding the introduction of non-monogamous relationships in the Facebook App, Meta will enhance users' ability to present their most authentic self on their Profile.

In response to the letter, a Meta spokesperson told the New York Times that they were reviewing the letter and noted that Facebook had allowed users to mention on their profiles that they were in contact with more than one person under the "Open Relationships" option.
