JAKARTA - It's been almost a year since YouTube TV announced that it will provide 5.1 surround sound support for its streaming TV packages.

The Verge spoke to YouTube's head of product, Neal Mohan earlier this year, and Mohan said it would be arriving soon. And it really happened.

"We know you've been waiting, and it's finally ready. 5.1 Audio is rolling out this week across Google TV, Android TV devices, and Roku," he wrote on Twitter.

In the YouTube TV Help blog, you can watch several YouTube TV programs in 5.1 surround sound while using the app on a compatible TV set.

As long as your device and setup meet the requirements, you'll automatically get 5.1 audio whenever it's available for the program you're watching.

Currently, the YouTube TV team is still working internally and with partners to enable 5.1 on Apple TV, Fire TV, and game consoles.

Google also provides compatible TV device models that support 5.1 surround sound, including:

Samsung + LG + Vizio devices with Cobalt 20 or higher Chromecast traditional Android TV Google TV Roku
