JAKARTA – The Government of Indonesia through the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) carries out three main steps to create a safe and inclusive digital ecosystem for the community. This is expected to be able to create a healthy and optimal digital transformation.

The three steps include cutting off access to negative content, tackling misinformation and news content, and finally intensifying the digital literacy movement.

"The first step is the termination of negative content that violates the law. The termination of negative content will be dealt with based on reports from government agencies, the public, and findings from the Kominfo team. So far, there have been 2.9 million negative content whose access has been cut off," Johnny said as quoted from press release, Wednesday, June 1.

Of the 2.9 million negative things that have been cut off, Johnny revealed that 1.7 million of them are negatively charged websites while the remaining 1.2 million contain negative content on social media.

The second step is to create a secure and inclusive digital ecosystem in Indonesia. The Ministry of Communications and Informatics said that the prevention of hoaxes or fake news continues to be carried out proactively.

Cyber patrols were deployed and reports from various complaints and communication channels of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics were alerted to eradicate hoaxes.

“The Ministry of Communication and Information is working with the media and press, the digital industry, and the general public to clarify hoaxes and disinformation. The government also orchestrates positive and effective public communications as a counter-narrative to the hoaxes circulating on the internet," he said.

Regarding the third step, Kominfo makes this step the ultimate movement because it provides a basis for internet users to be able to understand the conditions of the developing digital environment.

The third step is digital literacy which is given on many levels from elementary to high level.

"Digital literacy is at the core of our efforts to encourage safe and productive use of the internet, as well as being the most effective step to reduce negative narratives and hoaxes circulating in cyberspace," said Johnny, as quoted by Antara.

He said that with these three steps, the Government together with the community could create a safe and inclusive digital ecosystem for many parties.

However, with a note of cooperation, the various parties involved must be active and mutually support each other so that the three steps can run optimally.

"It is important for all stakeholders, both government institutions, digital platforms, community organizations, the media, to academia, to support each other in handling negative content circulating on the internet," he concluded.
