Twitter Tries Unmentioning Feature, Users Can Leave Annoying Conversations

JAKARTA - After planning to bring the Edit tweet button, Twitter is now experimenting with the Unmentioning feature that will allow users to remove themselves from a conversation.

"We're experimenting with Unmentionin, a way to help you protect your peace and keep yourself out of conversation," tweeted @TwitterSafety.

Currently, the feature is still limited to some users and only available on the web version, it is not known for sure if this feature will roll out for Android and iOS users.

But with the Unmentioning feature, Twitter brings a very useful way to clean up annoying mentions.

In a GIF displayed by Twitter in its statement tweet, users will be presented with how the Unmentioning feature works.

There will be a 'leave this conversation' option that appears in the tweet corner menu on the web version of Twitter, including mute and pin options as well.

If the user clicks on this leave this conversation option, it will display another menu detailing what happens when the user leaves the conversation, i.e. the username is unmarked, stops any forward mentions in the conversation and, perhaps most importantly, it stops notifications.

Launching The Verge, Friday, April 8, this feature was previously disclosed by cybersecurity researcher Jane Manchun Wong, who tweeted a screenshot of the leave chat feature in February. As is often the case, his investigation proved correct.

The option to avoid tweet conversations that may be distracting, uninteresting, or users don't want to be a part of is a welcome addition to Twitter, especially for those who experience harassment on the social network.
