JAKARTA - Epic Games announced on Monday, April 4th that its newest smartphone application can create 3D object models from a series of photos on your Smartphone.
You will be able to use an application, called RealityScan, to scan objects in the real world. For example, a chair and then bring a scan of that object into your game or project.
In the video introducing the Reality Scan app, you can see how this app works. A woman scans a brown chair, and then the result looks like a 3D model.
The app is currently available in a first-come, first-served beta via Apple's TestFlight platform that will be open to 10,000 users.
Launching The Verge, using this application is quite easy. To take a series of photos, you can hold down the capture button or take individual shots, and while doing so, you want to slowly move around the object to take various shots.
This app asks you to take at least 20 pictures. Once you're done scanning, you can send your model for upload to Sketchfab, a 3D modeling platform, and after a few minutes, you'll be able to see the scan you took on the site.
Epic Games will be holding a "State of Unreal" event on Tuesday, April 5, at 11:00 AM ET.
