JAKARTA - Pinterest today launched a new Pin Sharing feature for Idea Pins users. The idea is to provide content creators to reach their wider audience on various other social networks like Instagram, Facebook and others.

Idea Pins is the first video format introduced last year in an effort to catch up with the social media industry, especially TikTok. Switch from static image to video.

Content on Idea Pins can include static images or videos, which are optionally captioned with text and graphics. Users can browse various Idea Pins from the content of the creators they follow in vertical feeds like TikTok.

To share content, content creators can first tap the Facebook Stories or Instagram Stories icon in the share menu, which will start the download of Idea Pins.

The content is then saved as a watermarked video that holds all the Idea Pins pages together, then ends by displaying the creator's content name and Pinterest username, a format that mimics TikTok's download options.

When the download is complete, Pinterest will direct the user to the Facebook or Instagram app with the Stories creation flow open and the watermarked Idea Pins video ready to be edited and posted.

Even though integration with Facebook and Instagram is built into it, Pinterest notes that they allow creators' content to be shared on other platforms as well, including Snapchat and TikTok.

With the advent of Pin Sharing, it will enable content creators to market their Pinterest presence across social platforms, luring their audience back to Pinterest.

However, Pinterest can't trust the presence of the Pin Sharing feature that can help reach an audience of content creators through Stories, other platforms are likely to downgrade content in their algorithm feed if it contains a watermark.

Instagram, for example, has directly said it will use this as a signal to downgrade content on its Reels tab. Pinterest says the new Pin Sharing feature is rolling out today for all users.
