Only 24 Hours After Launching, NFT Twitter Can Be Blocked With NFTLocker

JAKARTA – Within 24 hours of launching Twitter's nonfungible token, or NFT, profile picture for iOS updates, a github contributor named “mcclure” has coded and shared a browser extension that automatically blocks Twitter accounts using NFT profile pictures.

The program, called NFTLocker, blocks paid subscribers of the Twitter Blue service for iOS who choose to display NFT as their profile picture.

This extension works in both Chrome and Firefox browsers on desktop and while an early prototype, "future versions of this plugin will scan your notifications and do the blocking automatically."

But why would someone code such an extension? According to the mcclure README, that's because NFT is an "investment scam." They do not mince words with their words.

“In short, NFT users are just annoying to be around. People who buy NFT must continue to encourage others to buy NFT or the NFT they buy will lose its value. Click NFT Twitter is full of indistinguishable accounts of sockpuppet, dogpiling, and monkey clones. Blocking NFT users only makes Twitter better."

The web developer also recommends using the Better TweetDek app to block NFT profile picture users.

However, mcclure seems somewhat misinformed about the driving force behind Twitter's pivot to using NFT. In the README section, McClure claims that Jack Dorsey “invests his money in cryptocurrencies and if Twitter makes NFT more popular, Jack Dorsey will make money.”

While Jack Dorsey is very aggressive in investing in cryptocurrencies, he has shown little interest in NFT since stepping down as CEO of Twitter last year.

During this time Dorsey has dedicated his career to advancing Bitcoin adoption, mining and development under his new role as Block CEO. He recently announced the Bitcoin Legal Defense Fund as well as the Cash App integration for express payments.
