JAKARTA - Apple is said to be working on integrating its Touch ID biometric technology into Apple TV remotes or home automation remotes, according to a new patent.

First reported by Patently Apple, the Cupertino giant, United States (US) has been granted permission to use its patents this week. The new patents describe remote televisions, home appliances, doors, appliances, and more with biometric authentication. Note that this is a utility patent, not a design patent. That is, the patent does not provide an idea of how the original design will be used for Apple TV or future home automation remotes, but rather Apple's idea of using the biometric system included with the remote.

The idea presented in the patent is that a remote, which could be used for Apple TV or home automation equipment, would feature one or two Touch ID sensors.

By bringing this technology, users who want to buy anything on Apple TV, must first authenticate with Touch ID.

The patent states, "Electronic devices having at least one operational setting, such as a power setting, with at least a first state and a second state. Electronic devices may also include access controllers that can receive state data and data authorization from an external source such as a remote control," he wrote.

"The access controller can activate the operational setting state upon receipt of the appropriate authorization data received from or associated with the output of at least one biometric sensor associated with the remote control," he added.

The patent also mentions it may be integrated with a parental control feature to limit what children can do with the remote.

For information, Apple's patents do not always produce results in the form of consumer products that can be purchased. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what is planned in the smart home industry.
