JAKARTA - Instant messaging service WhatsApp has just released a preview feature for voice messages, which allows users to first check how their audio quality is before being sent to other users.
WhatsApp's parent company Meta says it has slowly rolled out the feature to iOS, Android, web and desktop users in recent weeks.
Citing the help page for the feature, the option to preview the voicemail appears after the user presses the stop button to finish recording. The user can then preview it with the triangular play icon, delete it with the trash icon, or send it with the submit button.
The audio preview feature is one part of a series of new updates that have been reported in development around WhatsApp's voicemail feature.
Earlier this year, the service also added the ability to speed up playback of the voice feature, which is especially useful if users get long voice messages, and WABetaInfo reports that the voice feature can be paused and resume voice recording.
But now, WhatsApp is also allegedly preparing more interesting features. In September, WhatsApp confirmed that it was developing a new voice transcription feature, which would allow users to read transcriptions of voice messages instead of listening to them.
Then in October, WABetaInfo reported that they also found signs of a global voicemail player feature where users can listen to voice messages while browsing other WhatsApp chats without stopping.
It's not clear when WhatsApp will launch a series of new capabilities for the voicemail feature.
