Microsoft Surface Duo Is Finally Exploring The Foldable Cellphone Market Next Month

JAKARTA - Towards the end of last year, Microsoft created something interesting with a clamshell style phone. It is known that the cellphones are Surface Duo and Surface Neo.

Almost a year of introduction, now Microsoft will officially launch the Surface Duo and side by side with other foldable cellphone lines such as the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Motorola Razr.

This means that Microsoft's latest device is no longer just a prototype, but a complete product with a release date set for September 10.

Microsoft introduced the Surface Duo as a foldable phone with two internal screens. It runs on the Android operating system and features a hinge that rotates 360 degrees, allowing the user to use one of the two screens separately, or open them for shared use.

In announcing this new folding device, Microsoft has kept its internal or external specifications a secret. However, leaks are circulating that the device includes two separate 5.6-inch OLED touch screens (1800 x 1350) with 4: 3 aspect ratios that connect together to form an entire 8.1-inch (2700 x 1800) workspace with an aspect ratio of 3. : 2.

Unlike the Samsung Galaxy Fold foldable device, the Surface Duo uses real Gorilla Glass, and the screen is designed to work in a similar way to multiple monitors on a Windows PC.

When folded, it is only 9.6mm thick, which means once opened it is the thinnest phone ever on the market, and is compatible with the Surface Pen.

One big question about the Surface Duo is the camera. Microsoft uses an 11MP camera with an aperture of f / 2.0, which will include an automatic low-light mode, HDR multi-frame shooting, and up to 7x "super zoom".

The Microsoft Surface Duo is also capable of recording 4K and 1080p videos, which will be supported at 30fps and 60fps, with image stabilization. There is only one camera on the Surface Duo, but it can be used for video calls and as the main camera.

This device is also claimed to run on a Snapdragon 855 processor with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. Unfortunately, news is circulating that this Microsoft Surface Duo will only be equipped with a 3577mAh battery, which is nothing special, of course.

Apart from that, Microsoft also uses algorithms to predict how to open the application in different views.

“There's an algorithm there that is very smart and tries to predict. "If you are on one screen and ask for a link, it will fill the other screen," said Microsoft's Head of Tools, Pansos Panay.

Later, if the user clicks a link in the e-mail application on one screen, that screen will open on another screen so that the user can continue to read the e-mail side by side with the web page. Applications like Microsoft Teams and PowerPoint are also optimized so that users can view video calls and other Teams chats.

Of course, the Microsoft Surface Duo is not a cheap device, this cellphone manufacturer from Washington, United States (US) is selling this folding device at a price of 1,399 US dollars or the equivalent of Rp.20.6 million.

However, the device is not much different from a foldable smartphone which is around the price of US $ 1,500, equivalent to Rp.22 million and the Surface Duo team of course must immediately develop something unique in the fast growing folding market today.
