JAKARTA - The lack of user interest in the Threads application, made Meta the parent company of Facebook, finally choosing to disable the messaging application.

Threads is a standalone messaging application or Instagram companion, which was first launched in 2019. After previously the company closed another standalone messaging application, Direct.

While this app does offer some unique features, most people prefer to continue their conversation on the actual Instagram app.

According to a Techcrunch report quoted by Digital Trends, Thursday, November 18, the app will no longer be supported by the end of December 2021. Instagram plans to notify Threads users with an in-app notification starting on November 23.

Later, users will be directed to return to Instagram if they want to message friends in the future.

Data obtained by TechCrunch shows Threads does have 13.7 million installed users globally from the App Store and Google Play, but it's unclear how many of them download Threads and actually continue to use it. The ratings aren't good either, with lots of complaints about app design, missing features, and bugs.

However, with the advent of the operable Messenger and Instagram apps shortly after the release of Threads, Instagram fans have a much better alternative.

Instantly the existence of Threads sank after that, especially as the company continued to roll out more features to Instagram and abandoned Threads.

As such, Meta states that once support for Threads ends, users will be logged out automatically and the app will no longer be available on the App Store or Google Play. Then, simultaneously all the Threads features will be available in the main Instagram application.
