JAKARTA - Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali said President Joko Widodo asked the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to resolve the issue of sanctions against Indonesia.
"I attended an internal meeting with the President and the General Chair of the LADI (Indonesian Anti-Doping Institute). The President is monitoring and observing developments," said Zainudin at the Kemenpora Building, Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Friday, October 22.
"He asked us to fulfill WADA's request to LADI. The President asked that the matter be resolved in the shortest possible time," continued Zainudin.
WADA imposed sanctions on Indonesia for not complying with the administration of doping samples, one of which prohibited the Indonesian national flag from being flown at international sporting events, including the Thomas Cup 2020 which was won by Indonesia.
According to Zainudin, President Jokowi is aware of the formation of a task force chaired by the General Chairperson of the KOI (NOC) Raja Sapta Oktohari who is in charge of accelerating and investigating the case of WADA sanctions against LADI.
"This team consists of seven people consisting of NOC, LADI, sports and the government. The President welcomes it and asks for acceleration," said Zainudin.
The government is also working with the Japan Anti-Doping Agency (JADA) which will provide supervision in resolving issues with WADA.
"Japan is committed to helping Indonesia to immediately resolve the problem," said Zainudin.
