Affirms Real Madrid Doesn't Need A New Striker, Capello: Mamma Mia! Up Front, They Have No Problems, Even Without Mbappe

JAKARTA - Former Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello has insisted that Carlo Ancelotti does not need Kylian Mbappe because his squad already has sufficient quality attacking options.

Capello feels that Madrid should focus more on strengthening their defense.

Madrid is increasingly aggressive in bringing Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain when the player's contract has one year remaining.

Although his contract expires soon, the French striker has yet to sign a new contract which reinforces rumors that he will leave the Parc des Princes in the January transfer window or the summer of 2022.

Previously, Real Madrid had made three offers to PSG for Mbappe in the transfer market last summer, all of which were rejected.

Club president Florentino Perez has expressed his intention to return to the 22-year-old in January, but Capello feels his former club is focused in the wrong place.

Real Madrid top the La Liga table on goal difference after seven games, but they had already conceded 10 goals including two against Espanyol before the international break.

Capello feels Carlo Ancelotti should strengthen his backline when the transfer market reopens. He believes players like Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio can still be counted on to score goals.

Capello referred to Madrid's 6-1 thrashing of Mallorca last month, where Asensio scored three goals and Benzema scored twice.

When asked about Madrid's interest in Mbappe, the former Italian coach replied: "They need time to build a strong team, Madrid needs some centre-backs."

"I saw them against Mallorca... Mamma mia! Upfront they have no problems, even without Mbappe. They have interesting players," Capello told Corriere dello Sport on Wednesday.
