Even Though The Air Conditioning Is Not Optimal, The Papua PON Badminton Arena Is Considered Worthy Of A National Event

JAKARTA - Head of the PP PBSI Competition Division Mimi Irawan said that the 2021 Papua National Sports Week (PON) badminton arena at GOR Waringin, Jayapura deserves to be used as a venue for talent search events, namely the National Circuit (Sirnas).

Mimi, who is also the technical delegate for the badminton branch of the PON Papua 2021, has even conveyed a message to the Mayor of Jayapura Benhur Tommy Mano so that Waringin Sports Center can be maintained after the PON later so that it can be ready to host national sports events at any time.

"This is okay on the island of Java for Sirnas, even though there are only four fields. This means that there is a representative toilet with a toilet seat and the water is clean. The Tribune is also okay," Mimi said when interviewed by Antara at Waringin Sports Center, Jayapura, Tuesday.

"I told the mayor that when the PON is finished, don't let the GOR be neglected because this is very fulfilling (qualification)," he added.

However, Mimi admits that the facilities at the GOR Waringin badminton match arena still need to be improved, especially the air conditioning which is not optimal enough to make the arena feel hot.

“AC is not cold enough. Later it is necessary to install glass wool on top so that it absorbs hot air from outside because Papua is very hot, so the roof must be overcome so as not to waste air conditioning. The lights above near the roof are also not strong for the field because they only have 600 lumens," he said.

"The heating field below is also still lacking so it still needs to be repaired."

In addition, GOR Waringin in Jayapura is also unable to use hawk eye technology, which allows players to view replays to see if the shuttlecock is leaving or entering because the cost is very expensive.

"But I will try to make this national event feel international, especially since the mayor has said he will pay attention to the facilities here," he said.

DKI Jakarta badminton player Ruselli Hartawan, who has been training at the Waringin Gymnasium since October 3, also previously complained about the hot conditions of the GOR.

“Pretty hot and sweaty too, but for the atmosphere it's okay. Maybe you have to use an ice bag (ice compress) in the field to reduce the heat," said Ruselli.
