JAKARTA - Two members of the Indonesian National Police, the 42nd generation of the Papuan Regional Police's Nage No Kata, won the judo sports competition in the XX Papua PON 2021 at the Graha Eme Neme Yauware Judo Sports Venue, Saturday 2 October.

They have Bripda Wairifes Bukwab and Bripda Agus Sujatminto. Both managed to beat athletes from East Java and West Java with the highest score of 408.5.

Bripda Wairifes Bukwab (22), a man born in Jayapura, February 20, 1999, is the son of Baharuddin and Albertina Bukwab. He is grateful for the gold medal for Papua, even though this is the first time he has appeared in this prestigious arena.

"I thank God Almighty and my parents and the Head of Judo Pengprov Papua who have supported us until the PON so that we can win first place. Especially to the Papuan people who have supported us directly or indirectly in prayer," he said as quoted from PON XX official website.

Their achievements are the result of three years of hard work.

“We came from Jayapura. I was previously in silat, so I became interested in judo because I wanted to create something new. Thank God, for the first time participating in PON, I was able to donate gold to Papua. Hopefully judo can develop again in Papua," he hoped.

Meanwhile, Bripda Agus Sujatminto (24), who was born in Jayapura, August 2, 1997, is of mixed Javanese and Papuan blood.

“My father is Javanese, but if you ask me which person I am, I say Papuan, because when I say Javanese people don't believe it. My face is more like a Papuan mama," he said.

This Javanese-Papuan mulatto man is very grateful for the gold achievement, which is an honor because he can make his parents and the institution he serve happy.

“My goal to join judo is actually because I want to travel all over Indonesia and it has been achieved. It feels great to get gold in PON," he said.

According to him, in Nage No Kata the level of difficulty lies in focus and technique, because the movement must be timed, otherwise the technique will be wrong.

"We are one generation, we met before entering the police force. We tested together and finally the education was the same. Hopefully we can motivate others. The point is, if you want to try and fight, you can. You can do it," he said.
