Sean Gelael's Bad Luck

JAKARTA - The first race of Formula 2 for the 2020 season was like a disaster for Indonesian racer Sean Gelael. In two races at the Red Bull Ring Circuit, Austria, last weekend, the DAMS Racing racer always failed to finish.

The cause is a technical problem. Sean's ground jet lost power reportedly due to electrical damage. This is beyond what Sean and DAMS expected.

In the second race which was held on Sunday, July 5, there were indications that the problem had been resolved. Understandably, the team crew worked into the early hours to unload Sean's car. As a result, the 23-year-old racer was able to accelerate to position 16 from the initial position of 20.

The opportunity to improve the position is then wide open when the safety car enters the track. Unfortunately, the problem actually arose when the race started again after the safety car. Sean's car lost power again.

"The car at that time was really nice," said Sean in a written statement received by VOI.

The former Prema Racing racer was made to shake his head. He couldn't believe what happened to him at the Red Bull Ring. DAMS was confused.

Because Sean's teammate, Dan Ticktum, did not encounter any significant problems. In fact, you could say that he looks extraordinary. In the second race, the British racer finished second on the podium.

"What we also regret is that Sean lost a lot of time adapting to the new car and tires," said DAMS Team Principal Francois Sicard.

DAMS hopes that all problems can be resolved in the following series. The second round of the 2020 Formula 2 season will be held at the same venue on July 10-12.
