Olympic Men's Soccer Final, Brazil Vs Spain: Matador Team Without Ceballos Still Injured

JAKARTA - Dani Ceballos has confirmed he will miss the Tokyo 2020 Olympic football final when Spain face Brazil, the midfielder said on Friday night.

"I've worked really hard with the amazing medical team to get back to playing in this tournament that I'm so excited about, but sadly I couldn't," Ceballos tweeted via his personal Twitter account, @DaniCeballos46.

"Time for me to help the team in another way tomorrow. Let's win the gold medal. Thank you everyone," he wrote in the same tweet.

The Real Madrid midfielder, who was on loan for the last two seasons by Arsenal, had appeared to strengthen Spain in the opening match of the Group C elimination against Egypt, which ended 0-0 at the Sapporo Dome Stadium, 22 July.

However, Ceballos played only one half before being withdrawn in the first minute of the second half with an ankle injury.

Reporting Antara, the Spanish football federation, RFEF, decided that Ceballos would stay in Japan in the hope that he could recover when the Matador Team appeared in the knockout stages, but until 24 hours before the final his condition did not improve.

Spain are chasing their first Olympic men's soccer gold medal after the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
