Luke Shaw Breaks Record For Fastest Goal In Euro Final, 1 Minute 57 Seconds

JAKARTA - Luke Shaw broke the record as the fastest goalscorer in a Euro final when he led England over Italy in the final match of the 2020 European Cup at Wembley Stadium, London, Sunday local time.

The official UEFA website noted, reported by Antara, that Shaw scored his goal exactly one minute and 57 seconds after the match started.

With that time, he surpassed Chus Pereda's previous record for the fastest Euro final goal for Spain in the sixth minute of the 1964 Euro final against the Soviet Union.

The goal stemmed from England's success in anticipating an Italian corner, but Gareth Southgate's side was in no rush to counterattack.

Southgate's gamble of making one line-up change compared to the semi-finals by bringing on Kieran Trippier also paid off, as it was the Atletico Madrid full-back who provided the assist for Shaw's goal.

Trippier carefully watched Shaw's movement, who stood relatively unmarked at the far post and sent in a pretty accurate cross.

With enough time, Shaw fired a volley that hit the post before hitting the Italian goal, beating goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

This is Shaw's first goal with The Three Lions. But unfortunately, they were unable to bring England to lift the Henri Delauney trophy because they lost on penalties when the final match ended.
