JAKARTA - Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Zainudin Amali confirmed that the Indonesian contingent departing for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics had received the COVID-19 vaccine.

This was conveyed in front of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) during the release of the Indonesian team for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

"All athletes who departed were vaccinated on February 26. All athletes, officials, and assistants have been vaccinated," said Zainudin as shown on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube, Thursday, July 8.

He then explained that there were 28 athletes and 17 officials who would go to the Olympics. This group was led by Rosan P Roeslani who is the Chef de Mission for the Tokyo Olympics.

"The results from the qualification exceeded the target because in the initial plan we could only dispatch 22 athletes due to the COVID-19 situation, but with effort, hard work, we were able to dispatch 28 athletes," said Zainudin.

Furthermore, he appreciated President Jokowi for still paying attention to the Indonesian contingent in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic situation. This is indicated by the release ceremony even though it was held virtually.

"This is the government's commitment to encourage the advancement of sports in the country," he said.

Previously reported, Menpora Zainudin Amali has confirmed Indonesian athletes will compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, virtually as an effort to avoid crowds and the risk of COVID-19 infection.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) Raja Sapta Oktohari, Chef de Mission Rosan P Roeslani, General Chairperson of the Central KONI Marciano Norman, general chairman of the national sports federation, as well as athletes and coaches who were present virtually from their respective national training centers respectively.

Zainudin said the 28 athletes who will compete in the Tokyo Olympics are selected people who deserve to represent more than 260 million Indonesian people. He advised the athletes not to waste this opportunity by giving the best possible performance in Tokyo.
