JAKARTA - Primeira League will return to action on June 4. Portugal's top soccer competition has been suspended since March 12 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Portugal's Prime Minister Antonio Costa last month gave the green light for the league to resume behind closed doors starting May 30.

In a statement, the Portuguese League confirmed the 25th round of matches will take place from 4 June.

It read: "Over the past several days, the various entities have had successive alignment meetings so that recovery can take place safely and with all protective measures that reduce the risk of resuming activities.

"It is hoped that the cooperation between the DGS [Portuguese Directorate General of Health], the FPF [Portuguese Football Federation] and the Portuguese League will serve as a model for the resumption of other economic activity, with the aim of this professional competition providing an example of good practice being applied by this pandemic to we.

"To ensure that the stadium is strictly inspected and medical tests are carried out on all professionals involved in the match and their organization, the 4th of June 2020 is set for the first round of the 25th round of the NOS League (another designation of the Primeira League)."

Porto are one point ahead of Benfica at the top of the table when the season is postponed. Each club has 10 matches still to be played.

There are nearly 28,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Portugal, resulting in 1,163 deaths.
