Jake Paul has ruled out the chance of returning to the ring after he suffered a broken jaw in his last fight against two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.
Paul had to undergo surgery to have two titanium plates fitted and several teeth removed after Joshua broke his jaw in two places in their fight in Miami, USA, in December last year.
The YouTuber, who has just entered the world of professional boxing and is struggling to recover completely, said that he could return to the ring or not very much depends on the healing process he is currently undergoing.
"I have to undergo an implant procedure and don't know how long it will take," said the American fighter, as reported by BBC Sport.
Paul went the distance in the six-round fight against Joshua. During the period he fell several times and got up before the fight was stopped after a hard right hook from Joshua broke his jaw.
The fighter, whose full name is Jake Joseph Paul, said he would undergo some new scans on his jaw in the next few days to get the latest information on the healing process, especially a more accurate time and whether he could duel again or not.
"It does feel much better as time goes on, but I definitely need to get permission to be able to practice fighting. I still keep my fitness and enjoy training with boxing gloves. I'm always in the gym, after all," said Paul.
The defeat in the fight against Joshua saw 29-year-old Paul slip from the WBA super-bantamweight rankings and bury his chances of stepping into the ring against other big names in the division.
Before losing to Joshua, Paul had already undergone several professional fights. However, his opponents are mostly made up of boxers who have passed their prime or former mixed martial arts fighters.
Although his future in the boxing world is in doubt, earlier this month his partner at Most Valuable Promotions, Nakisa Bidarian, told BBC Sport that Paul was considering a return to the cruiserweight class.
