JAKARTA - The Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenpora RI) has officially drastically reduced the number of the Minister of Youth and Sports Regulation (Permenpora) as part of the deregulation step.

The policy was carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Law of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenkum RI) which also accompanied the process of simplifying regulations at the Secretariat of the Ministry of Law, Kuningan, Jakarta, on Friday, April 17, 2026.

The Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Erick Thohir, said that this deregulation is part of the effort to reform bureaucracy so that existing rules are more efficient, do not overlap, and are able to optimally support public services.

"Of the total 191 rules, we have deregulated, now it's only four rules," said Erick.

The four rules that were maintained include the main aspects of the development of the youth and sports sector. First, related to youth; second, sports socialization; third, improving achievements; and fourth, developing the sports industry and sports tourism.

In addition to cutting regulations, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has also simplified the substance of the rules. From around 1,500 articles previously spread in various regulations, the number has now been significantly reduced to around 60 percent to approximately 600 articles only.

Erick assessed that this decision was able to accelerate the policy-making process and facilitate the implementation of programs in the field. He hopes that there will be no more administrative obstacles that linger after the existence of a more concise regulatory structure.

"For the sports of achievement, we want our athletes to be successful like Taufik Hidayat, to win Olympic gold and world champions, but the rules are up to 700 articles, now they have been cut to 200," he said.

In addition, a number of authorities that were previously in other ministries have now been transferred to the Ministry of Youth and Sports. This includes the management of various sports facilities, the organization of events, to activities related to the sports industry.

Erick hopes that this deregulation can create a more integrated and efficient sports ecosystem and be able to encourage the improvement of athletes' achievements while strengthening the sustainable development of the national sports industry.

"The Ministry of Tourism has also provided several work activities that have overlapped with us," said Erick.

The delegation of authority includes the stadium facilities, circuit facilities, arena ring facilities, fields, martial arts sports facilities, special event management services, and sports activity promoters.

The Minister of Law, Supratman Andi Agtas, said that all four regulations of the Minister of Youth and Sports as a result of deregulation had been signed by the Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir.

"At the same time, the Ministry of Law through the Directorate General of Law Enforcement immediately promulgated it so that the four ministerial regulations were declared safe," he said.
