Should Sane Cost 100 Million Euros?

JAKARTA - If the above question was asked to Jupp Heynckes, the answer is definitely 'no'. The former Bayern Munich coach feels Leroy Sane is not yet a top player.

Sane, 24, was heavily linked with Bayern before suffering a serious knee injury in August last year. Heynckes - who won the Champions League and four Bundesliga titles as head coach of Bayern - believes the German national team player costs less than 100 million euros.

"He was in good shape before he injured himself very badly. For me, he hasn't made a breakthrough as an absolute top player," Heynckes told Welt am Sonntag.

"I think he is a player who is currently at a crossroads. Will he continue to work hard on himself, or will he continue to be an extraordinary talent?"

Bayern are reportedly ready to pay at least 100 million euros for the Manchester City forward. However, this price may change due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

But Heynckes doesn't feel Sane, a player who bagged 21 caps with Der Panzer, is worth that number.

"He has to be ready to take the next big step because there is no point if brilliant playing skills show up only occasionally," he said.

"I can honestly tell you that I don't think the price (100 million euros) is justified."
