Men's And Women's Singles Still Staying At BNI Indonesia International Challenge 2025

YOGYAKARTA - Indonesian players, including men's singles and women's singles, continued to advance in the 2025 BNI Indonesia International Challenge (IIC) international badminton championship at Amongrogo Sports Hall, Yogyakarta, Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

Men's singlestai Duta Richardo managed to advance to the next round in the international badminton championship which was attended by 258 athletes from 12 countries which took place on 18-23 November 2025. Richie beat Zhe Ying Wu from China Taipei with two straight sets 21-17, 21-12.

According to Richie, this match is quite tough. Moreover, they already know each other's opponents because they met at AJC last year which was also held in Yogyakarta. This makes Richie already know the opponent's style of play.

Zhe himself has a tall posture. In addition, he has quite good energy with a strong blow.

"This match is indeed tough and we met last year in the same place. Frankly, the opponent has a high posture and the energy is quite fast. I try to anticipate not giving opponents a gap to attack," said Richie.

"The opponent's appearance is different. He is getting more mature, but in this match he made a lot of mistakes himself. His game was slack in the second game," he said again.

Meanwhile, the women's singles Chiara Mariella Handoyo made sure to qualify after defeating Australian representative Yuelin Zhang, with a score of 21-14, 21-14. This fifth seed appeared solid despite experiencing doubts in the second game.

Chiara was left behind by points due to several mistakes himself. He admitted that he still had to be more consistent when performing rallies and maximize attacks.

In another match, mixed doubles who are also deputy national training, Kenzie Yoe/Luna Rianty Saffana won easily over the pair of China Taipei Cheng Kai Wen/Liu Chiao-Yun two straight sets 21-17, 21-9.

According to Luna, as deputy national training, they really want to show their best game. They also want to show they can perform well and don't want to lose just like that.

''As the only deputy national training officer, we want to show that we can. Because from outside the national training, many also participated. So we can't lose until we lose,'' he said.
