Bellingham Not Happy To Be Replaced, Tuchel: He Must Accept And Respect My Decision

Thomas Tuchel said Jude Bellingham had to accept his decision after the midfielder expressed his frustration at being replaced in the final minutes of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers against Albania.

Harry Kane's two goals in stoppage time sealed a 2-0 win at Tirana, which saw runners-up Euro 2024 complete his perfect performance in Group K with an eighth and eighth clean-sheet win.

Bellingham was among seven players who were reshuffled and reserved in victory on Friday, November 14, 2025, against Serbia.

While visiting Albania's headquarters, he started for England for the first time since June 2025, but was replaced by six minutes towards the end of the match.

The 22-year-old raised his hand out of frustration right after the second goal saw Morgan Rogers waiting to replace him on the sidelines - a reaction Tuchel didn't like.

"That was his decision. He had to accept the decision. His friend was waiting on the sidelines, so you have to accept it, respect it, and keep going," said the England coach.

Furthermore, when asked if Bellingham's reaction contradicted what he had said regarding behavior, Tuchel said, "I don't see it that way, I have to review it again."

"I see he's not happy. I don't want to exaggerate him right now. I think to some extent, if you had players like Jude, who were so competitive, they would never like him."

"However, as you say, my words remain in effect. It's about standards and levels, as well as it's about commitment and respect for each other."

"So, there is someone waiting outside. We will not change our decision just because someone is waving," said the German coach.

Tuchel said it was a bad impression that individual incidents distract from being collective, which has been the focus of England's campaign in the perfect 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.

This is the first impressive year under Tuchel, who will find out his opponent next summer in the December 5, 2025 draw, after becoming the first European team to play at least six 2026 World Cup Qualifiers games by winning everything without conceding.

"I don't dare think about starting XI (at the 2026 World Cup) because there are many more months. However, we learned a lot more today because it was a tough game, it was an emotional stadium."
