Alex Marquez Locks MotoGP Runner Up Position 2025

JAKARTA Alex Marquez officially locked the runner-up position of the 2025 MotoGP World Championship after he finished second in the Malaysian Grand Prix sprint race.

Gresini Racing's driver completed a sprint session at the Sepang International Circuit on Saturday, October 25, 2025, with a time difference of +2,259 seconds from the winner of the race, Francesco Bagnaia.

Alex started the sprint race from second place, right behind Bagnaia who won pole position in qualifying. He managed to maintain the position to get an additional nine points.

Pedrodecay had shifted his position from Red Bull KTM Factory. However, he managed to get up to snatch it and keep it until the end of the race to lock the runner-up position this year.

Successfully getting nine points made Marc Marquez's younger brother have collected a total of 388 points. That number cannot be shifted by other riders with the remaining three main races and two sprint races.

Alex finished right behind his brother who had already confirmed the title this season at the Japanese Grand Prix at the end of September 2025. Marc Marquez is certain to be out of competition for the rest of the season due to injury.

Victory in the sprint race in Malaysia makes Bagnaia now sit in third place in the standings with a collection of 286 points. The number of points is the same as Marco Bezzecchi in fourth place.

Both are 46 points ahead of Pedro Alcohol in fifth place. With 99 points still up for grabs, their competition to lock in the top three is still very tight.

The third position struggle does not only see Bagnaia, Bezzecchi, and Askosta. Fabio Di Giannantonio in sixth place with 216 points also still has a very small chance compared to the other three names.
