Separated From The Indonesian National Team, Patrick Kluiver: Proud Of What Was Built Together

Patrick Kluivert said he was proud of what had been built in the Indonesian national team (VOI/Karisa Aurelia Tukan).

JAKARTA - Patrick Kluivert officially left the position of coach of the Indonesian national team following PSSI's decision to terminate the contract. No longer guarding the Garuda Squad, this is the first words after the Dutch coach was fired.

The decision to terminate the CLuivert contract was announced by PSSI on Thursday, October 16, 2025, noon. This is the aftermath of the failure of the Indonesian national team to advance to the 2026 World Cup after losing to Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

After the separation, Kluivert said he was very disappointed and regretted not being able to bring the Indonesian national team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

However, this Dutch coach still feels proud of everything he has done with all the staff in the Indonesian national team.

"Although I am very disappointed and sorry for not qualifying for the World Cup, I will always be proud of what we have built together," Kluiver said on Instagram on Thursday, October 16, 2025.

Kluivert also expressed his gratitude to all supporters of the Indonesian national team for all the support that has been given so far. He did not forget to thank the Indonesian national team players, staff, and PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir.

"I want to thank the supporters, the players, my staff, and Mr. Erick Thohir for this unforgettable journey. Thank you," Kluiver said.

Patrick Kluivert was officially announced as coach of the Indonesian national team by PSSI on January 8, 2025 to replace Shin Tae-yong who was sacked on January 6, 2025.

PSSI also explained that Kluiverts will be assisted by a number of assistant coaches from the Netherlands such as Alex Pastoor and Denny Landzaat. In the cooperation agreement, Kluiver was contracted with a duration of up to 2027 with the option of an extension of two years.

During his tenure, Kluivert has led eight matches for the Indonesian national team, six of whom are 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. In the end, he failed to bring Indonesia to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
