Anthony Yarde Aims For A Duel Against Canelo Alvarez

JAKARTA Boxer Anthony Yarde believes he can have the opportunity to compete against Mexican boxing star Canelo Alvarez next year.

Next month Yarde is scheduled to challenge tough boxer David Benavidez to fight for the WBC lightweight world title.

Benavidez, who is now the world champion in light heavyweight and super middleweight, has never lost a professional fight.

If successful in winning the duel then Yarde has the opportunity to engage in a more prestigious fight, including involving the big name Canelo Alvarez.

Yarde says Canelo is definitely confident against him because he has previously lost against Sergey Kovalev, a fighter who has suffered from a knockout against the Mexican champion.

"No one knows where this storyline will lead. Just imagine. Anthony Yarde against Saul Canelo Alvarez. It must be crazy," said Yarde as quoted by Sky Sport.

Yarde accepted the challenges of his career by flying to Russia to box against Kovalev in a world title fight.

He lost the clash so Canelo then fought against Kovalev who was the winner.

Yarde then fought against former undisputed champion Artur Beterbiev in an exciting battle in London and lost again. Thus, he now hopes to become world champion in his third attempt.

"This is my reason for getting into this sport. To get the biggest and best fights available. It has become my character," said Yarde.

David Benavidez from the United States is certainly not an easy opponent for Yarde. He has fought 30 fights and managed to win all, 26 of which ended in KO.
