Korea Open 2025: Jonathan Qualifies For Round Of 16

JAKARTA Men's singles badminton player Jonatan Christie beat Ng Ka Long Angus from Hong Kong to secure tickets for the last 16 of the Korea Open 2025.

The fourth seed locked the victory of two straight games 21-11 and 21-17 in 44 minutes at Suwon Gymnasium, South Korea, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.

In this match, Jonathan passed the first game easily, but was forced to rise from behind in the second game to win.

"He accelerated the tempo in the second game from the start, but his focus came off in the middle. That's what got me a lot of points," Jonatan said after the match.

This victory made Jonathan sharpen his winning record against Ng Ka Long Angus to 8-5. This is also Jonathan's fourth straight win over Hong Kong's singles.

Jonathan admitted that he was happy because the Korea Open field was very supportive, far from the usual windy shuttlecock.

"I didn't have time to try out the arena in training yesterday. So, I learned to adjust with visuals only. Watch the qualifying round yesterday, see how to play singles," said Jonatan.

Jonathan is the second Indonesian men's singles to confirm the ticket to the second round of the BWF Super 500 level tournament. He followed in the footsteps of his colleague Anthony Sinisuka Ginting.

In the second half, Jonathan will meet Lee Chia Hao from China Taipei, who qualified for the second half after beating his compatriot Chi Yu Jen.

Jonathan has so far won 2-0 against Chi. If he wins again, Jonathan can meet Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in the quarter-finals.

Apart from Jonathan, the ticket to the second half was also successfully secured by mixed doubles Amri Syahnawi/Nita Violina Marwah. The pair won over Chen Zhi Yi/Francesca jurisprudence (United States).
