Sarina Wiegman Wins Johan Cruyff Trophy: I Will Stay In England

JAKARTA - The Manager of the British Women's National Team (Timnas), Sarina Wiegman, won the Trophy Johan Cruyff award for best manager in women's football at the Ballon d'Or which was held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, early morning WIB, in Paris.

Wiegman won the Euro title twice in a row with Lioness in July 2025, making him the first manager to win that record.

Dutch legend Ruud Gullit gave the award and said to Wiegman on stage: "Please, please, please return to the Netherlands!"

Wiegman replied: "I will stay in England for a while."

In his speech, Wiegman took the time to discuss the work that still needed to be done in women's football.

"It is an honor to receive this award after an extraordinary summer. I would like to thank the players, staff, FA (British Football Federation), and my family for the unconditional hard work, trust, and support I received from them. Without you, I will not stand here."

"Women's football has grown rapidly, we have broken records. I also want to thank Switzerland for organizing Euro 2025 because it was extraordinary."

"This is not just a personal honor. I see it as a recognition of women's football and our journey because we have stepped this far."

"With this recognition, we must take responsibility and try to defend our identity. Be authentic, inclusive, a place where everyone feels accepted. I hope we will continue to fight together against misogini and racism."

"Sports must always unite and never divide," said Wiegman at a ceremony in Paris.

Wiegman was nominated with Chelsea Manager Sonia Bomassor and Arsenal Manager Renee Slegers.

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique won the Johan Cruyff Trophy award for the male category after his team's success in the Champions League and Ligue 1.

PSG won Europe's top club tournament for the first time, beating Inter Milan 5-0 in the final.
