JAKARTA - Megastar Cristiano Ronaldo will not return to his boyhood club Sporting Lisbon in the summer, claims his agent Jorge Mendes.

Mendes' claim comes after Ronaldo's mother Dolores Aveiro insisted he would try to bring his son back to the Portuguese club.

The 36-year-old's contract remains one year away at Juventus, but he is rumoured to be returning to Lisbon this summer.

Lisbon has a special place for Ronaldo as the club is where he started his senior career.

After Sporting captured the Portuguese title for the first time since 2002 on Tuesday, Aveiro said that "next year (Ronaldo) will play in Alvalade (Sporting stadium)."

However, Aveiro's statement was refuted by Mendes who said that Ronaldo had no plans to return to play in Portugal.

"Cristiano is very proud of Sporting after winning the championship, as he has shown in public," Mendes told Portugal newspaper Record as quoted by Reuters via Antara on Saturday, May 15.

"However, at the moment, his career plans do not include playing in Portugal."

Ronaldo himself currently leads the Serie A scoring list this season with 28 goals, but his club Juventus have had a difficult season and are in danger of not participating in next season's Champions League.

They will host league champions Inter Milan on Saturday night at 23:00 GMT.
